Who doesn’t love a great wedding? Alcohol is flowing, love is in the air, long-lost friends are about and memories are there to be had. But how do you capture these amazing memories that you can keep forever? Well there is usually a wedding photographer that can do the job. However for something more unique and tangible, a Polaroid camera is a must have.
They are also a ton of fun to use after a few drinks.
But what are the best Polaroid cameras for weddings? Well after some hands on experience and field testing, I have come up with what I believe is a great list to help you get started!
Before I get stuck into this article to deep, let me first break some bad news…. Those traditional Polaroid cameras that we know and love, have actually been discontinued due to low sales 🙁 . While you can still easily pick up a second-hand Polaroid camera, finding film is another story.
However not all hope is lost! There are a few camera brands that still make great instant cameras that keep the imperfect Polaroid charm we have come to appreciate. So let’s get stuck in!
Top 3 Best Polaroid Cameras For Weddings
1. Fujifilm Instax Mini 90 Classic (Best Tested For Weddings)
Starting off my list is the Fujifilm Instax Mini 90 Classic, which when tested gave the best vintage/grungy style photos while still holding on to that Polaroid nostalgia look. I don’t seem to be the only one who adores this camera as it currently has 1,300 reviews on Amazon with an average star rating of 4.5. I feel a Polaroid revival coming on!
As I traditionally shoot with a full frame DSLR, I like to have control over what I capture. So it came as a surprise when I noticed this Fujifilm Instax camera came with different shooting modes that allowed me to get more creative with my shots. When I paired this up with good lighting and composition, the results were fantastic.
After the wedding, I asked my friend what she thought about this camera. She said it was fantastic for photos and was also a great ice breaker for unacquainted friends and family to come together. The only thing she wished was that she had got more film!
2. Fujifilm Instax Mini 9 – Smoky White
Next up on my list of the best Polaroid cameras for weddings is the Fujifilm Instax Mini 9. When it comes to the instant cameras, it’s fair to say that Fujifilm is now the new Polaroid. They have taken the Polaroid technology and combined it with a minimal and simple body that produces great results.
While I haven’t used this specific model for a wedding, I have used this camera in a wide range of environments so I am very confident it would hold up to the demands of a wedding or engagement party.
Using this Fujifilm Instax Mini 8 was incredibly simple for taking photos and loading the film was effortless. Like the above model, this Mini 8 also has different shooting modes for taking photos in sunlight, overcast, nighttime, low light and indoors. The resulting photos were moody/vintage feel which was the exact look I was after. This was the film I used.
3. Fujifilm Instax Wide 300 Instant Film Camera
Moving onto the last camera in my list is the Fujifilm Instax Wide 300. So what makes this model different from the two models above I mentioned? As you might have guessed from the name of this camera, it takes wider and larger instant photos. This makes it ideal for larger groups as you can fit more people into frame while still getting pretty close up.
Overall this was a great camera that I was very pleased with. While the two above models produced a more soft/vintage look, I would say this Fujifilm Instax Wide is quite a bit sharper which looses that feel a little. This was easily one of the best Polaroid cameras for weddings. A must have!
